The Gandal Lab

Translational Genomics of Neuropsychiatric Disease

Our Focus

The Gandal Lab @ UCLA employs systems-level, functional genomic approaches in human brain to investigate the biological mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders, including autism, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. We combine multi-omic approaches including RNA-sequencing with computational and statistical modeling to characterize the genetic architecture of psychiatric disease. Finally, we conduct proof-of-principle clinical studies to identify novel targets for therapeutic intervention.

We are located in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC), within the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and the Semel-Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.

We are affiliated with

  • The UCLA Interdepartmental PhD Program for Neuroscience (NSIDP)
  • The Genetics and Genomics Home Area within the Graduate Program in Biosciences (GPB)
  • The UCLA Bioinformatics Interdepartmental Graduate Program (Bioinformatics IDP)
